Sola Dei Caritas

God's Love Alone

The Divine Essence Itself is Love, even as It is wisdom and goodness. Thus, just as we are said to be good with the goodness which is God, and wise with the wisdom which is God (since the goodness whereby we are formally good is a participation of Divine goodness, and the wisdom whereby we are formally wise, is a share of Divine wisdom), so too, the Love whereby formally we love our neighbor is a participation of Divine Love. - Thomas Aquinas (ST, II-II, 23, 2)

"By the participation of the Spirit, we are knit into the Godhead." - St. Athanasius

"God is effectively the life both of the soul by Love, and of the body by the soul: but formally Love is the life of the soul, even as the soul is the life of the body." - St. Thomas Aquinas

"They deceive themselves who believe that union with God consists in ecstasies or raptures, and in the enjoyment of Him. For it consists in nothing except the surrender and subjection of our will - with our thoughts, words and actions - to the will of God.... It should be observed that perfect love of God consists not in those delights, tears and sentiments of devotion that we generally seek, but in a strong determination and keen desire to please God in all things, and to promote His glory." - St. Teresa of Avila

"True charity consists in putting up with all one's neighbor's faults, never being surprised by his weakness, and being inspired by the least of his virtues." - St. Therese of Lisieux

"Do not try to please everybody. Try to please God , the angels, and the saints. These are your public. If you are afraid of other people's opinion, you should not have become Christian." - St. John Vianney
